A CLASSIC children’s tale was brought to life at an interactive storytime session for youngsters.

Dozens of children visited Colchester’s longest-running soft play centre Go Bananas for two sessions based on Eric Carle’s classic story the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

As well as enjoying a reading of the classic tale, children got stuck in with some arts and crafts based on the book and enjoyed some of the tasty treats the main character eats in the story.

Angela Taylor, who led the session, said: “I remember the book from my childhood and I could probably have recited it to the children without reading.

“We feel storytime is a really special thing between parents and children and we want to encourage a love of reading but do it in a fun way.

“I read the story and we encouraged the children and adults to join in with actions following along with the book.

“In another room we had a craft sessions which was based on the story, encouraging the adults to get involved again.

“We used our fake food to make it a sensory experience for the youngsters and the children got to taste each of the fruits in the story as well.

“At Go Bananas, we want to give every child the best possible experience and to give them a fun day out. We are trying to give something different every day for our customers.”
