A FORMER factory could be demolished to make way for more than 30 homes in Dovercourt.

Sato UK has lodged plans to Tendring Council to knock down its redundant factory and put up 38 homes in its place.

The homes are planned to be built to the south of the newly built factory in Valley Road.

The planning application submitted to Tendring Council’s website said: “The outline application is for up to 38 units on a 1.25-hectare site.

“All matters are reserved with the exception of means of access, so appearance, landscaping, layout and scale are all reserved for future determination.”

The plans include building one and two-bedroom flats, as well as two, three and four-bedroom detached and terrace houses.

But, so far two residents have objected to the plans on the council’s website, citing the new homes could create traffic issues and existing homes in the area will be overlooked.

James Wilson, of Ramsey Road, Dovercourt, said: “The road is very small and could potentially create traffic issues on to Main Road, particularly at school times when children may be crossing.

“In addition the entry road into the Sato site is too narrow for high volumes of traffic at peak times.”

John Kelly, of Ramsey Road, Dovercourt, said: “My concerns are that our back fence/boundary consist of established trees/bushes which may be covered by a protection order and that because they are so established have grown over the fencing and could not be removed without significant damage and leaving our property being overlooked by property number 27 of the new builds.”

The plans come after outline permission to build 96 homes on its factory site in Valley Road were withdrawn in 2014.

Tendring Council will have the final say on the scheme later this year.
