MEMORIES and photographs of the former Customs House office are being called for by an estate agent.

Harwich Village Homes is on the look-out for old pictures of the building in Main Road as part of an open day for the new homes on the site and possibly to recreate the images for use in the public area of the flats.

The former office building and surrounding land is being redeveloped into 34 flats and five homes, with work set to be completed before summer.

The flats will be one and two bedrooms, with a central atrium and shared roof terrace.

Paul Grubb, director of Harwich Village Homes, which is selling the apartments on the site, said: “As a local resident all my life, I know how important Custom House was for employment and as a focal point of the community where people either worked, or knew of people who worked there. I would love to hear from ex-employees who may have photographs of the site which could be reproduced in the public areas of the newly designed building.

“We want to show that we have paid due respect to the building’s past, whilst acknowledging its important future role in providing quality homes to local people for the future”.
