VISITORS to a popular archaeological park will be given more opportunities to find out about its historical significance.

Another new interpretation panel has been unveiled at Gosbecks Archaeological Park, focused on a popular walking route near Oliver's Lane.

The panel will provide visitors with detailed information on the area's Roman history following a recommendation from Colchester Council's cross-party heritage task and finish group.

Tim Young, councillor responsible for business and culture, said: "We’ve been working with the heritage task and finish group to make sure Gosbecks, and it’s historical importance, is highlighted.

"Colchester has such an exciting past and we are working hard to make sure its future is better for residents, visitors and businesses.

"If you haven’t visited before, please do so and find out more about this amazing archaeological gem.”

The council has also committed to white-lining the outline of the Roman buildings on a monthly basis for seven months.

Gosbecks was home to King Cunobelin, a late Iron Age leader who reigned over a large area of south-east Britain for 40 years.

After his death the Romans invaded Britain and the site is where the British tribes surrendered to Emperor Claudius.
