Volunteers, staff and regulars officially opened a new community pub extension.

The Great Bromley Cross held a ribbon cutting to open the new £10,000 extension, which includes a new entrance and accessible toilets that are twinned with loos in developing countries.

It also has a new community space upstairs to host events including craft fairs and training courses for businesses.

A spokesman for the community pub said: “It was a great event, a chance for us to celebrate, showcase our achievements and thank our funders, volunteers and the councillors who have supported us.”

The new loos are part of the Toilet Twinning project, which provides clean water, basic sanitation and hygiene education in developing countries.

Each cubicle has a certificate showing where the toilet is twinned including GPS co-ordinates so you can look it up on Google Maps.

The new extension came after grants totalling more than £100,000 were awarded from GCG Environment Trust, Essex County Council Community Infrastructure Fund and Low Carbon Across the South East.

Beryl Hurst, a pub regular, cut the ribbon at the event on March 27.
