A FUNDRAISING ball is being held on behalf of a poorly teenager to help cover her ongoing medical costs.

Maisy Kidd-Munnery, from Dovercourt, has cerebral palsy and a severe form of epilepsy.

The 14-year-old was born prematurely and suffered two brain haemorrhages leaving her blind and unable to speak.

Her family have a fundraising page to raise cash towards sensory and specialist equipment for the youngster.

To help raise money for the online page, a ball is being held at Parkeston Railway Club, on June 1.

For the event there will be live music, children's entertainment and an auction with a host of valuable items such as signed boxing gloves by boxer Ricky Hatton.

A five-day boot camp stay in Dorset worth £1,000 will also be auctioned off.

Local businesses have also come forward to offer their support for the ball.

The organisers are calling for residents to donate more items to the auction and get involved with the fundraiser.

Suzanne Howe, organiser, said: "I am close friends of Maisy's mum and have supported a lot of events for Maisy.

"I am trying to support her cause and raise funds for both her and spread awareness.

"She's been in hospital since the start of the year and needs her wheelchair remoulded so it is more comfortable for her spine as she has scoliosis.

"The ball we are holding is to help with the family's ongoing funding for Maisy."

Bill Davidson, also organising the event, said: "I am running the charity night on behalf of Maisy.

"We have an auction going on and have a pair of signed boxing gloves from Ricky Hatton.

"We are still looking for people to put items in the auction.

"We also have a live band and DJ, and someone doing children's entertainment like musical chairs.

"Every penny raised goes to the For the Love of Maisy fund which will hopefully make her life better."

There are 200 tickets available for the event.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.

They can be bought from Parkeston Railway Club, Ramsey Master Butchers or by calling Bill on 07506 212377, or Suzanne on 07786 040598.
