CYCLISTS, skateboarders and leisure centre-goers can look forward to a day of events in Dovercourt.

The Tour de Tendring, a skate park jam, and sports session are taking place on Sunday, June 2 in the area.

Setting off from Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles leisure centre, Tour de Tendring cyclists can take on a six, 20 or 60-mile ride around the Tendring countryside in aid of the Essex Wildlife Trust.

Riders begin pushing their pedals between 8.30am and 10.30am depending on which ride they take on.

Open days are taking place on the same day at both Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles and Harwich Sports Centre, where people can try activities for free.

At the Dovercourt pool there will be a Disney-inspired family fun session between 10am and 10.45am.

Between 11am and 1pm there will be the launch of the new Treasure Island pool inflatable - general swimming is from 1pm until 3pm.

People can also try a spin session in the gym from 11.30am until noon, and on the astro pitch there will be a showcase football match between Dovercourt Rovers and Great Clacton, kicking off at 11.30am.

At Harwich Sports Centre visitors can try table tennis, squash, racquet ball, badminton and tennis.

These events have all been timed to coincide with the Dovercourt Skatepark Jam, to offer fun for the whole family all in one place.

Taking place at the skatepark, next to Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles, the jam includes competitions and prizes and runs from 11am until 3pm, and follows last year’s successful event.

Mike Carran, head of sport and leisure at Tendring Council, said the day was one not to be missed.

He said: “There is something for everyone across the Tour de Tendring, the leisure centre open days and the skate jam, so we’re hoping to see lots of people come along and take part.

“You could even do the Tour de Tendring in the morning and then after your ride jump in the pool or pick up your skateboard.

“We’re pleased to be teaming up with Harwich Town Council to bring their exciting skate jam and our well-established Tour de Tendring and leisure centre open days together for the benefit of the whole of Harwich and Dovercourt – and visitors from further afield.”
