A PRIMARY school's maths team has been awarded first place in the Tendring heats of a maths competition.

The maths team from All Saints' Primary School, in Dovercourt, got through the heats of the EES for Schools KS2 Mathematics Competition and was commended for demonstrating excellent team work and perseverance.

The team will be representing the school at the finals in Chelmsford on July 4.

They will be competing against 15 other teams who represent other finalists across Essex.

Headteacher Mark Millbourne, said the school is extremely proud of their maths team’s achievement and knows how excited they are about the finals.

He said:"We feel that it is important that our children are not missing out on these opportunities.

"We ensured that our primary schools within Harwich had the opportunity to participate in this county competition. "At All Saints’, we believe maths is a life-long skill that our children should master before leaving us.

"Our parents, children and dedicated staff are committed to this.

"To support this, we provide morning maths sessions three times a week, before school starting at 8.15am until 8.45am, to our children in year six."

Mille Noakes, maths team captain and school prefect, said: "We are confident as we know we can only do our best."
