DOZENS of residents attended a presentation evening with Harwich's youngest ever mayoress.

The Mayoress' Presentation Evening was held at the Royal Oak, in Dovercourt, on Tuesday evening.

During the event, Kate Powell, Harwich's 18-year-old mayoress, split £2,621 between her two chosen charities.

A total of £1,310 went to Home-Start Harwich and the other half was given to Age Concern Harwich.

Charlie Powell, Harwich mayor, said the evening went fantastically.

He said: "People from the two charities were nearly in tears.

"I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who helped with the event.

"We are very pleased with the result, especially with the youngsters who took part.

"It's been an eye-opener for me to see what great work young people have done for the town during my time as mayor."

Charlie and Kate are no longer mayor or mayoress following yesterday's mayor-making ceremony which saw Alan Todd and wife Slyvia elected for the year.
