POSTERS advertising a magic show performed their own disappearing act in a village ahead of the scheduled event.

But it wasn’t slight of hand by magician Robbie James behind the act but disgruntled villagers.

Alex Morley Productions, which is promoting the show at Great Bromley Village Hall today, said the performance is meant to be half-term fun for the family - but the fun stopped when the posters started to go missing.

Magician Robbie said: “We were excited about visiting Great Bromley as we have been a couple of times before and performed to great crowds and everybody is always so friendly, so the posters being removed and complaints being made about them is surprising.”

Alex Morley, of Alex Morley Productions, said he received a call from Tendring Council saying complaints had been made about posters put up around the village.

He added: “When we received the call we acted immediately and I sent a team to remove the posters.

“The last thing we ever want to do is upset anybody by what we do and will always work with and co-operate with any councils and always aim to remove our posters after our visit.

“When the advertising team arrived in Great Bromley to remove the posters, they found many had already been removed and taken down.

“But we want to assure the residents that the show is still going ahead as we have always had so much support in the area before.”

The Robbie James Magic Show is on tour visiting small communities which would not usually get to see shows like this without travelling to the theatres in bigger towns.

Robbie is a three-time winner of UK Magician of the Year and has appeared on television shows including This Morning and Blue Peter.

He said the show, including live rabbits, is still going ahead at 3pm and the team behind the scenes is now trying to promote it in different ways.

A Tendring Council spokesman said the authority had only removed one poster advertising the show.

He said: “This poster was one of several unauthorised signs removed for safety reasons from the Frating roundabout junction of the A133/A120, taken down because the area was becoming cluttered and a potential distraction to motorists.

“We have not removed any other posters about the magic show.”

The show will take place in Great Bromley Village Hall on Friday at 3pm.

Tickets are £8 per person or a family of four people for £30 from 01953 665001 or at robbiejamesentertianer.com or on the door 30 minutes before the show starts.
