A MUSEUM of equestrian artwork by a classical English painter is hosting a range of events throughout the summer.

The Munnings Museum, in Dedham, which showcases the iconic work of Sir Alfred Munnings, is holding a talk with Brough Scott on Wednesday, July 10, between 6pm and 8.30pm.

Scott is a renowned horse racing journalist, broadcaster and former jockey.

The talk will be about his grandfather, Brigadier-General ‘Galloper’ Jack Seely whose decades-long friendship with Alfred Munnings was forged on the Western Front.

The initial drive for the exhibition came from Brough, whose forebear commanded the Canadian Cavalry Brigade.

Brough said: “I am so thrilled the exhibition is being hosted at Castle House, Munnings’ own home and where he finished the war paintings prior to their first exhibition in London.

“I am greatly looking forward to seeing the paintings and meeting everybody there.”

Then on August 1, art lovers will have the unique opportunity to see some of the country’s best equestrian painters tackle a recreation of a field camp which would have been familiar to Munnings during his time in France during the First World War.

The completed pictures by the likes of James Power, Malcolm Coward and Haidee-Jo Summers will be displayed at the museum during October and available for purchase. It’s free to watch the artists at work and is the perfect opportunity to admire their skills and find inspiration for your own paintings.
