A GROUP of dancers won big at their school's first ever cheerleading and dance competition.

The Harmonie Rose Dance Academy entered competitions for the first time since starting in Dovercourt two years ago.

The dancers went to the ICE Bill Chill competition in Peterborough and the ICE Blast in Bedford this month.

Seven-year-old Melodie Husk scooped first place at both events with her tiny contemporary solo as well as getting a first place as part of cheerleading group in Peterborough.

The team, called Frostbite, is made up of Melodie, Scarlett Jones, Caitlin Mulligan, and Megan Gallacher, all 11, and Chloe Higgs 13.

Chloe also went on to win first place with her junior contemporary ICE Rink solo the same day.

And Melodie, with her two-year-old sister Harmonie Rose, came first with their tiny jazz ICE Rink duo in Bedford.

Academy principal, Kirstie Husk, said: "We have been running for two years and have done shows and local events, but this is our first year of competing.

"We came back with five first place trophies and one second place trophy

"We are ecstatic about the results and couldn’t be prouder of the girls.

"They demonstrated exactly what being a HRDA dancer/cheerleader is all about with months of passion, dedication and team work, overcoming anxiety to perform in front of hundreds of people."
