WEST End musicals raced through the streets of East Bergholt in an annual charity event.

The East Bergholt Pram Race on Bank Holiday Monday saw teams dressed as popular stage shows including the Lion King and Sister Act race from pub to pub.

The 2.8-mile route started from The Royal Oak, known as The Dicky, this year and finished at The Hare, with the ‘babies’ in the prams having to drink half a pint at each stop along the way.

A spokesman for the event said: “I would say a dozen or more prams started from the Dicky.

“There was fantastic support around the entire course, with family entertainment and other activities at the Constable Hall and the pubs, and a village market at the church. The family activities at Gandish Road included children’s races such as three-legged racings.

“It will be too early to know how much money was raised but the beneficiary is the Constable Hall on Gandish Road which is being refitted with things like accessible loos.”

The winner this year was the Lion King team, with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat coming second.

The fancy dress winner was the Sister Act team and in second place the Little Shop of Horrors.

All-ladies team winner was the Little Shop of Horrors.

The winners received travel vouchers from Bergholt Travel.
