A LONDON band will be taking over a popular pub for a night of jazz to remember.

The popular Red Lion pub, in South Street, Manningtree, is welcoming the Old Jelly Rollers to the stage next weekend.

The band has recently played at the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s in London and at the Royal Festival Hall, so the pub is in good company.

A spokesman for the Red Lion said: “The Old Jelly Rollers are an enthusiastic and highly talented young band.

“They are a musical collective who encompass the raucous, joyful spirit of the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans.

“They are bound to get feet shuffling with their full seven piece line-up of some of London’s finest young musicians.”

The band is led by up-and-coming songstress Louise Balkwill, who has been named by multi-award winning singer Liane Carroll as a singer to listen out for.

For the show, the band will be creating the beat of the New Orleans’ streets.

The seven person line-up will feature vocals, trumpet, clarinet, trombone, tuba, banjo, guitar and drums.

Tickets for the event cost £12 per person.

They can be bought at the bar from the Red Lion, from redlionmanningtree.co.uk and wegottickets.com.

The gig takes place next Saturday, June 8.

The doors of the Red Lion will open for the event at 8pm.

There will be no support act on the night and the Old Jelly Rollers will be on stage at the venue at about 8.30pm.
