THE battle lines have been drawn by a group determined to stop a food giant building a supermarket in their town.
Stour Community First has produced 10,000 leaflets to promote a public meeting, on the proposal by Tesco to build a store in Manningtree.
The leaflet, which is being distributed across the region, pulls no punches. It says - "Stop the destruction of Manningtree's local community by the Tesco proposals. There can be an alternative to a ghost town, clogged with traffic and controlled by a single retail store."
To bolster the campaign, the meeting on Tuesday at 7.30 pm in the Lawford Venture Centre, will include a speech by anti-supermarket campaigner, Lady Caroline Cranbrook.
