A CHOIR of orphaned youngsters performed a one-off concert in Dovercourt.

Harwich mayor and mayoress Alan and Sylvia Todd watched the Watoto Choir perform at Kingsway Hall and spent time with the children afterwards.

The choir is made up of youngsters from Uganda who have lost either one or both parents.

The Watoto charity care for these children in unique villages and give them an education.

A spokesman for the event, said: "The choir have performed all over the world and have entertained royalty and political leaders so we were delighted that the mayor and mayoress attended the concert along with councillors.

"Our special guests spent time after the concert with the choir much to the delight of the children.

"We thank Watoto for their visit and look forward to seeing them again in the future, hopefully for more than one night."
