A ROAD under a railway track has been closed in both directions, causing delays.

Roadworks are being carried out in Brantham Road, Lawford today and tomorrow.

Due to the temporary closure by Essex County Council, drivers and cyclists will only be able to use the level crossing to pass through.

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “The road under the railway line is closed today (Wednesday) and tomorrow between 10am and 3pm so engineers can monitor censors and take measurements of the bridge retaining wall.

“This is to check whether there is any evidence of movement or other issues with the wall.

“Subject to level-crossing barrier closures to allow safe train movements, the road over the bridge remains open.

"The road under the bridge will be fully open to traffic outside the working period of 10am and 3pm so that peak time traffic is not disrupted.”
