CLACTON Amateur Dramatic Society (Cads) is returning to the town’s West Cliff Theatre with a classic British farce later this month.

See How They Run was written by Philip King while the Nazis’ V1s and V2s rockets were still dropping on England during the Second World War.

King’s comedy brought fun and laughter to people weary of war and has delighted audiences ever since.

A spokesman for Cads said: “It’s a testament to its durability that it keeps on being produced by countless theatre groups over the years.

“The plot of the play revolves around a vicarage where the Reverend Lionel Toop, who is married to an ex-actress Penelope Toop, has to go away for the evening.

“While he’s away an old acting friend of Penelope’s turns up and is persuaded to go and watch a performance of Private Lives in a neighbouring village which is out of bounds for servicemen.

“Penelope gets over this by giving her friend Lionel’s second suit. When Lionel returns home he is confronted by mistaken identities, drunken parishioners and a German PoW.

“Its a pacy, hang on to your trousers if you can, comedy.

“It has a brilliant cast, great set and is guaranteed to get you laughing.

“So blow away those Brexit blues and come and be entertained.”

The play is at the West Cliff, in Tower Road, from Thursday, June 20, to Saturday, June 22, at 7.30pm. There will also be a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are just £10 each. They can be purchased from the box office by calling 01255 433344 or at westcliffclacton.co.uk.
