A MUM is set to travel to London to take part in a mass lobby calling for MPs to take action on climate change.

Sally Irving, from Dedham, is set to join thousands of people from across the country in Westminster and has arranged to meet her MP Sir Bernard Jenkin at the event.

The aim of The Time Is Now day, on June 26, is for constituents to urge their MPs to help create a greener world and end the UK's contribution to climate change by 2045.

Organisers of the event want MPs to pass ambitious new laws to create a healthier environment for people and wildlife.

Sally, mum of 18-month-old Harry, said: "I'm a member of the RSPB and I saw an email from them about this mass gathering in London.

"I've been watching the David Attenborough programmes and trying to get my head around it, trying to do more recycling and buy less and reuse more as well as trying to avoid buying plastic stuff.

"I want to talk to Sir Bernard Jenkin about education on the day really, about educating everyone on how we should play a part in it.

"The David Attenborough stuff has brought up a really interesting conversation, I would like to see that conversation on a more local level.

"What people can do on an individual level, village level and East Anglia as a region."

The lobby will be formed by people who care about issues including climate change, nature, green spaces, plastic waste and air quality.

A map on The Time Is Now website shows people planning to attend the event from Harwich, Manningtree, Mistley, Lawford, Brantham, East Bergholt and Dedham.

Sir Bernard, Harwich and North Essex MP, said: “I am keen to meet my constituents at their lobby of Parliament this month.

"I am totally persuaded by the need to address climate change challenge and all the known threats to our natural environment.

"I am personally committed to net zero by 2050 and have been a vocal supporter of that campaign.

"We need to take radical action to reverse species collapse and to maintain biodiversity.

"The Women’s Institute and the local Conservatives are hosting their 4th Climate Change event this October, which I will be chairing, and I will be encouraging all my constituents on this lobby to come along.”
