OVERNIGHT closures on the A120 are set to see the end of work to build a new roundabout at a dangerous junction.

Highways England has been building a new roundabout at Hare Green on the A120 since the end of 2017.

The roundabout is now working with all the exits open, but lighting, signage and landscaping work is still ongoing.

From Monday, Harwich Road from the junction with Church Lane in Great Bromley to the roundabout has been closed overnight, with the work expected to carry on until June 30.

In an email update on the work, a spokesman for Highways England said: “We have opened the new left-in, left-out Park Road junction and closed the central reserve gaps at Park Road and Pellens Corner.

“We are now carrying out works to the A120 including resurfacing, and installation of new lighting, signing, road markings and reflective studs. Landscaping work is also taking place.

“We anticipate main work to be complete by the end of June.

“The final stage of work will require overnight closures of the A120 from the junction with the A133 and Horsley Cross roundabout, between 8pm and 5am. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while we deliver these essential works.”

The new roundabout is being built after campaigners called for improvements at the Hare Green junction to make the danger spot safer.

A report released by Highways England last year revealed there had been 23 recorded collisions causing 52 casualties - with three of those being fatal - in the past five years. It also stated the majority of collisions have involved right turn manoeuvres to or from side roads.
