WOODEN dugouts used by young footballers have been broken at a community park.

Two of the wooden shelters at Parkeston Welfare Park have been damaged with slats broken off.

Bill Davidson, who helps run the park, said: “We have had a couple of the dugouts damaged, they kicked the boards out.

“I haven’t repaired them yet, I’ve left them as they are and made them safe but I’m going to leave them until after the school holidays are over now.

“It’s frustrating but you can’t let them win.”

It comes after another wooden shelter was damaged on June 5.

Bill added: “One lad was caught doing it and actually came and repaired it all himself.

“The other dugouts were damaged a few days later.

“We have CCTV down there now and more going in.”

Since 2011 the park, in Garland Road, Parkeston has had a new multi-use games area, children’s play area, outdoor gym, football pitch and nature park.

But it has suffered numerous acts of vandalism on park equipment, including the children’s play equipment donated to the village site.

The management committee host a series of fundraisers every year to fund the upkeep and running costs of the park.

The latest was a funday held on June 9, which raised £408.
