SHOP staff and their families took to Jaywick beach as part of a national clean up initiative.

Workers at Hughes Electrical, in Station Road, Clacton, joined other volunteers for a cleaning spree along the beach as part of an event organised by Marine Conservation Society.

Chris Shelton, manager of the branch, said: “We are always looking to put something back into the community, so when we heard about this initiative, we were keen to take part.

“In no time at all we were filling sacks with all types of plastic, glass bottles, wrappers and we even found the remains of an old sofa.

“It is amazing how quickly you get your eye in for spotting objects as when you first look the beach seemed clean.

“We left our sacks of rubbish, about 15kg, with the organisers who sort through it for the national survey.”
