South Essex has come together to mark Armed Forces Day.

Parades are being held in various locations including Southend High Street, Basildon Town Centre and Canvey Town Centre.

Councils have posted on twitter about huge support from residents while Essex Police has posted on Facebook urging people watching the parades to take care.

Southend Council posted on Twitter: "Amazing to see so many people turn up to support our armed forces.

"There was applause as the troops paraded through the high street."

Residents are lining the streets in the summer's sun to pay respects to the armed forces.

Essex Police said on Facebook: "We are supporting a number of Armed Force’s Day events across the county today.

"Our officers and staff are visible at events including Saffron Walden’s Armed Forces Parade and Fun Day, the Colchester Garrison Military Show and at Basildon Town Centre’s parade.

"We are working closely with our partners to ensure people have a fun and safe day.

"Please look out for each other, drink plenty of water and come say hello to our officers as we celebrate our troops both at home and abroad."
