A COUNCIL looks set to declare a climate emergency during a meeting next week.
Braintree Council’s Environment and Place boss Wendy Schmitt will put a motion before all councillors on Monday asking for the authority to take increased steps to tackle climate change.
The motion will call for a working group to be set up to determine how the council and residents can improve their carbon footprint.
The council itself has until 2030 to become carbon neutral, 20 years ahead of the national target.
Members of the action group would compile an action plan within a 12 month period before presenting the scheme to councillors.
