STUDENTS were treated to a media master-class by television director Richard Murrell.

Harwich and Dovercourt High School pupils were visited by the BBC director on Tuesday, July 9.

Richard has worked at the BBC for more than 30 years and has directed programmes such as Breakfast with Frost and the Sunday Politics show.

As a member of Bafta, Richard now works in collaboration with Speakers for Schools - a charitable organisation which provides inspiring speakers for state schools.

Senior assistant headteacher Simon Garnham, who co-ordinated the visit, said: “Students were given exceptionally useful advice on how to pursue a role in the media and were inspired by Richard’s exciting and varied career.”

Student leader Abi Broom said the visit had motivated her to consider going to university and pursuing a job in the industry.

“It was very enjoyable and helped me feel more confident about my own abilities and opportunities,” she added.

This is the ninth guest from Speakers for Schools to visit Harwich and Dovercourt High School. Previous presenters have included publishers, successful business people and leaders in sport.
