Although we are not residents of Dovercourt, my wife and I spend quite a lot of time at our beach hut there.

We love our time there, and on a lovely sunny day there are few better places to relax.

The park area around the bandstand is looking the best for several years.

Therefore, what a disappointment it was to read in the Standard that “low lives” had caused considerable damage again - this time in broad daylight, at the Indoor Bowls Club on a Sunday lunch time.

What is it with these people? What age are they?

My wife has a theory that they are people who have done nothing with their life, and feel somehow that they are achieving something by causing damage.

Are there no local police around during the day on a Sunday? If so, why not?

The attacks on beach huts have been more prolific this year, with some being completely burnt out.

A few years ago, we had a very nice new toilet block provided by the council - it has not taken very long for it to be badly vandalised - things ripped off the walls, doors smashed, ventilation covers ripped off, even the supports on the underside of the toilet seats have been prised off.

Is it not about time your MP stepped out of the “Westminster bubble”, left the “old boys’ network” and campaigned a bit more for additional policing in the area?

There are a lot of people trying to make Harwich a desirable place - surely it is time they received a bit more encouragement.

I’m sure the morons who cause damage to facilities in the area don’t read the letters page in the Standard, but I would just like to say: “You should be ashamed of yourselves”.

I hope the people who are working hard, whoever they may be, to improve things don’t lose heart - we certainly appreciate all your efforts.
