RNLI crews rushed to help five children who had got into difficulty in the water.

Harwich RNLI was called to Felixstowe Pier at 7.35pm on Friday, August 9.

On arrival at the scene, the children had thankfully made it back to the beach and had been met by Felixstowe Coastguard Rescue Team. Safety advice was given.

Harwich RNLI Press Officer Daniel Sime said, ‘It was a huge relief yesterday evening when everybody was safely ashore.

"The weather during Friday had been warm but with an increasing wind strength ahead of a weather warning coming in to force.

"If you are visiting the coast over the weekend or even in to next week, please take extra care, don’t put yourself in danger by being closed to the sea wall and large waves, it really can take just one wave to take you off your feet’.

"During next week, Swim Safe returns to Harwich again, offering further free sessions lasting an hour each. These sessions deliver important water safety skills and information. Please visit the Swim Safe website for more information, and to check session availability."
