A BRAVE fundraiser has shaved his head and raised more than £1,100 in memory of his late father.

Richard Dunne, of Mary Lane South, in Great Bromley, donated the money in aid of Macmillan’s Brave the Shave campaign.

The 39-year-old dad shaved his head at Great Bromley Cricket Club on Friday, August 9.

Richard, who is a painter and decorator, decided to donate the money to this charity because he lost his father nine years ago to brain cancer.

Harwich and Manningtree Standard:

He said: “The Macmillan staff supported my dad, myself and my family through the toughest time of our lives.

“That is why I would like to take the opportunity to repay them and help support others going through the same thing.”

His father, David Dunne, was only 56-years-old when he died.

Jayne Brown, a close friend of Richard’s, said his friends and family are all very proud of his fundraising efforts.

She said: “Richard and his dad were very close, so this was an amazing accomplishment.

“Richard loves to look his best all the time and he’d spend an hour in the bathroom to get ready.

“We all were very shocked by his decision, but he actually looks so much better without his hair.”

Richard said he’s “definitely happy” with the money raised but he would have wished to raise a bit more.

Richard started raising money three weeks ago through an online fundraising page on Macmillan Cancer Support’s website.

As the fundraising page is still open, you can also donate to support the cause by visiting bravetheshave.macmillan.org.uk and searching for Richard Dunne.
