PLANS to build a 116-home community in Ardleigh have been submitted to Tendring Council.

Catesby Strategic Land Limited has applied to build the houses off Plains Farm Close.

The plans include building a green open area, new pedestrian and cycling paths and parking spaces.

About 30 per cent of the homes are set to be accounted as affordable housing.

The report outlines transport links to Colchester, Braintree, Chelmsford and Ipswich.

Peter Merrick, of Willow Close, Ardleigh submitted his objection to Tendring Council’s Planning website.

He said: “Plains Farm Close is already subject to heavy commercial vehicles serving the two large multi franchise car dealerships, along with the private trade it generates, the road is at its limited capacity during peak times.

“Further development will cause congestion at the access to the new development as well as the junction onto the Ipswich Road, where shortly there will be constructed a drive through fast food restaurant.”

James Hunt Iloikali, of Plans Farm Close, Ardleigh, said: “Plains Farm Close is off Ipswich Road near a major junction to the A12 and A120.

“Ipswich Road is a heavily congested as it is one of the few routes into or out of Colchester.

“Exiting onto Ipswich Road can already be challenging at times.”

The design and access statement, submitted to Tendring Council’s planning portal, said: “The main issues raised by the local community included traffic congestion, ecology, and pressure on existing infrastructure.

"The responses received as part of the consultation process are set out in the statement of community involvement submitted with the application.

"The responses have been carefully reviewed.”

Tendring Council will have the final say over the plans.
