FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a large fire involving 500 tonnes of hay.
Crews from Manningtree, Clacton and Wivenhoe were called to Clacton Road, Mistley at around 9.30pm on Friday.
When firefighters arrived they set up hoses to protect the surrounding area while the stack of hay burned itself out.
A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "One fire engine remained at the scene overnight to ensure the fire burned safely and under control."
The crew was still at the scene at 8am this morning monitoring he blaze.
Update 4pm:
Essex Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene.
The fire is expected to burn for a few days and will be monitored to ensure it is safe.
