A VINYL and wine business has made the shortlist of the top 25 best small shops in the UK.

Winyl, an independent record and wine shop, in South Street, Manningtree, is a step closer to being named Britain's Best Small Shop by the Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC).

Steve Tattam, who runs Winyl with his partner Whilmari Swift, said: "I was very surprised and delighted to be informed we had been selected as one of the 25 finalists for the award, to attend the ceremony at the House of Commons on November 5.

"This comes just a month after we were a finalist in the Tendring Blue Ribbon Awards in the Retailer of the Year category so I am really proud of what we have achieved after just one year of trading.

He added: "There are more and more people moving to Manningtree and the nearby parishes, and Winyl has definitely brought more shoppers into the town and will continue to do so, working with the other shops, cafes, bars and the local councils and business chamber to keep the town thriving."
