EMPLOYERS and staff from across the region will share their concerns, knowledge and information on mental health in the workplace at a special conference.

Organised by Colchester Trades Union Council, the conference takes place at Headgate Theatre, in Chapel Street, on Saturday, during World Mental health Week.

Designed to draw attention to an increasingly important topic, attendees of the mental health in the workplace conference will hear from trade unions reps, employers and experts on the subject.

Steven Walker, a psychotherapist with 30 years experience, put together the event.

He said: “We have put together a programme of speakers, workshops and discussion to highlight the increasing problem of mental health and how it affects staff and employers at work.

“We are bringing together for the first time in this region trades union representatives, employers organisations and the public to gain knowledge, understand the problem, how to recognise mental illness and what to do.

“Mental illness costs businesses money and time and hurts individuals and families, but there is a lot we can do to support those suffering and challenge the stigma and shame surrounding mental illness.”

Entrance is open to the public and is free of charge but tickets must be booked by emailing tickets@headgatetheatre.co.uk or calling 01206 366000.

The conference takes place between 9.30am and 4pm.
