I could not believe the audacity of our Harwich Town councillor Ivan Henderson.

He is said to be worried about the preparedness, or lack thereof, of Tendring Council and the issue of Brexit.

He and the Labour Party he represents have done nothing but frustrate the democracy of more than 17 million people who voted in a legal referendum to leave the EU.

Nearly all the leaders said that prorogation was an assault on the democracy of parliament, not seeing the irony that is exactly what they have done to the common people’s vote on leaving the EU.

Then again there seems to be two different types of democracy, perhaps this is a form of proportional representation, where the losers can win?

If Ivan Henderson and the Labour Party he represents and all the other political parties had acted honourably, and worked together on leaving the EU, then this lack of preparation would not have occurred.

If they had also acted honourably, which seems to be sorely lacking in all parties in parliament, we should have been out by June 22, 2018.

Ivan Henderson also says he is worried about the impact of deprivation to this area over Brexit.

Being an ex-inhabitant of Jaywick, I can honestly say he didn’t seem too worried about it when being an MP and then a councillor in which Jaywick was in his area.

He certainly managed the deprivation of Jaywick by watching it go from bad to worse.

Of course now it is still the most deprived area and has been for at least the last ten years.

Would you believe also in the last 20 to 30 years between £40 to £50 million has been given in grants to the area of Jaywick.

I can assure you for the last 14 years I lived there I could see no sign of these grants.

Neither do I remember Ivan Henderson asking where any of these grants went.
