GARY Delaney is headlining the first night of a new comedy club in Warrington.

Following his solo show earlier this year at the Pyramid, the master of the one-liner will be performing at Hallmark Hotel in Grappenhall on Friday, November 1, when he will be joined by Steve Harris, Dan Nightingale and host Lindsey Davies.

The club is being launched by Carla Speight, who has a background in celebrity photography and used her showbiz experience and contacts to branch out into stand-up. She has previously had success with Urmston Comedy Club in her hometown as well as curating the line-up for Flixton Festival.

Carla, who runs the celebrity photography company Aberrant Perspectives, said: “After nearly a year of successful comedy nights, including five sold out shows, I was asked to book the entertainment at Flixton Festival in August which saw record numbers attend.

“It’s safe to say I got the bug for event booking. It’s given me the opportunity to combine my skills and contacts, gained from more than eight years running Aberrant Perspectives.

“I’ve worked with some of the best comedians and musicians performing on live tours.

“Previous people I have worked with include the likes of Jason Manford, The Cheshire Housewives, Katherine Ryan, Sarah Millican, Tez Ilyas, Nish Kumar, Al Murray, Paul Smith, Joe Lycett, John Thomson, The Kaiser Chiefs, Green Day, Olly Murs and many more.

“My career has also taken me to some of the biggest festivals across the country. I’ve regularly photographed Latitude Festival, Kendal Calling, the Isle of Wight Festival and Leeds Festival.”

The intimate comedy night at The Hallmark can host up to 200 people – but the venue could be subject to change for future events.

Carla added: “I’m dedicated to bringing the best comedy nights to Warrington. I know people in the town have a great sense of humour.

“As it stands there is no permanent home for Warrington Comedy Club and I would love to explore the venues in the area to find a home for the club.”

Gary, who lives in Mere, made his breakthrough in 2010 when his first Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Purist, was met with rave reviews.

A Mock the Week regular, Dave’s One Night Stand and Celebrity Pointless guest, Gary’s shows are renowned in the business for the sheer volume of gags that won over some of the toughest crowds.

Steve Harris is a former finalist in both BBC’s New Comedy Awards and Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny and is a seasoned stand-up having been on the circuit for 20 years.

Frog and Bucket ‘Beat the Frog’ host Dan Nightingale is known for his painfully accurate observations and killer punch lines.

And host Lindsey Davies is a favourite among the comedy circuit giants, such as Hot Water Comedy Club, Laughterhouse Comedy and Manford’s Comedy Club.

She is also the author of comedy novella, Mr Wrong, while her storytelling stand-up draws on her experiences of being a single mum-of-three.
