AN inspirational teenager is organising a fundraising event in memory of his mum and to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Taylor Roberts, 13, of Ramsey, wanted to fundraise for the charity after his mum Dawn Roberts-Fuller lost her battle with the disease in March this year.

The mum-of-three died just six months after she was first diagnosed with a tumour in her leg in November 2018 which spread. She was 48 years old.

To remember his mum and raise money for charity, Taylor is holding an event at the United Services Club, in Barrack Lane, Harwich tonight from 7pm until late.

Taylor, who attends Harwich and Dovercourt High School, has invited his school friend and DJ Tommy Jay to provide a disco atmosphere.

There will also be a raffle, with lcoal businesses donating prizes, a buffet, fun games and an open bar.

Taylor said: “We’ve had a lot of support from friends and the charity.

“I’m trying to raise money for Cancer Research UK so other people don’t have to go through this.

“I’m doing this in memory of my mum.

“I’m excited for the event, and even though I don’t have a specific target I hope to raise as much money as possible for the charity.”

Taylor lives with his two older brothers, Mason, 19, and Charlie Roberts, 28.

He said he is thankful for the support he has had from his friends, his mum’s friends, his stepfather and especially his brothers.

Taylor said: “We’d also like to thank all the businesses in the area who donated the prizes for the raffle.”

The teenager said he is very active at school, and he often organises events, so he really wanted to commemorate his mum through this charity night.

He said: “Everybody is welcome to come along, you don’t have to be a member to join the night.”

The event is free to attend but donations for the raffle and games will be much appreciated by Taylor and his family.
