A STREET art exhibition is taking place at an art centre.

The Merz-Merz Street art exhibition is unfolding at the Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre and will be running until November 4.

The exhibition which started a week ago, focuses around an iconic glance back at the ideal consumerist world of a cultural past.

Merz, who is a London based artist, creates alternative street art by transforming seemingly worthless objects into art pieces, using them as a canvas.

Merz provides us with insight into the scale of litter whilst also playfully transforming it.

She is often using salvaged photographs from a simpler, less materialistic world, which offers a voyeuristic glimpse into the life of the people shown.

This art project sometimes involves returning completed masterpieces back to the location they were originally found on.

Whoever comes upon them, is free to take them home.

Any pieces, which are not claimed will without any doubt degrade, be swept away or be disposed of.

A spokesman for the Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre, said: “We are really excited to be able to exhibit work by Merz Street Art.

“This will be the third exhibition since RM6 opened which has also featured work from young up and coming artists as well as established local artists.

“We plan to continue to change the exhibition every three weeks bringing a diverse range of art to the local area.

“Feedback so far has been extremely positive and attendances have surpassed expectations.”

The exhibition runs free of cost between 9am to 5pm on weekdays and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The centre is in Main Road, Dovercourt.
