THE electoral register for the district has been published almost a month earlier to avoid confusion during the up-coming general election.

The Register of Electors, where people update who is eligible to vote in each household, was supposed to be published on December 1.

But with the general election taking place on December 12 it was brought forward to November 4.

Ian Davidson, electoral registration officer for Tendring, said the early publication was achievable because of the success of the campaign.

He said: “We have had a great uptake from households responding to the canvass, and are now almost at 90 per cent of responses following two rounds of follow-ups.

“If your household is part of the one in ten yet to respond, then please do so immediately to ensure your details are up to date and you are eligible to vote in the up-coming general election.

“You can respond by text if details are the same, or make changes online, using the individual code included in the letters sent to you.”

People can register to vote in the up-coming general election until November 26.

The last general election was in June 2017.

It will be the first UK general election to be held in December since 1923.
