THE first named storm of winter could winds of up to 70mph to Dorset, the Met Office has warned.

Storm Atiyah, which has been named by the Irish Met Office, is set to batter parts of the UK and Ireland from Sunday afternoon.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Dorset between 3pm on Sunday and 9am on Monday.

The Met Office says wind gusts could reach up to 60mph inland with 70mph possible on the coast.

Large waves are also expected to batter the coast.

Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport is likely, the Met Office has said.

Bus and train services could also be affected, and short-term power loss is also possible.

Storm Atiyah is the first named storm of the season.
