THIS is the shocking moment a motorist performed a U-turn into oncoming traffic on the M62 after driving at up to 140mph on the hard shoulder.

Stephen Beaumont was jailed earlier this month after the high-speed police chase.

Cheshire Police have now released dashcam footage from the unmarked car that tailed the 30-year-old down the motorway.

St Helens Star:

Officers attempted to pull over Beaumont near to junction nine of the M62 shortly after 11.30am on Monday, December 2 2019, after he was spotted driving a Ford Fiesta with false number plates.

But he sped away along the hard shoulder of the westbound carriageway, reaching speeds of up to 140mph during the following pursuit and swerving between lanes in order to avoid being caught.

The driver got off at junction seven for Rainhill before running a red light and re-joining the M62 again onto the same carriageway via the entry slip road.

Beaumont, from Sefton, then did a U-turn against the flow of traffic but was quickly rammed by the unmarked BMW before he could continue any further in the wrong direction of the motorway and was arrested.

He admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance at Liverpool Crown Court.

The judge handed him 27 months behind bars, having also been convicted of a second count of dangerous driving as well as handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis.
