A DRUG driver who stole a car from Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre before driving it dangerously in Rose Hill, Oxford, has been given his final date for sentencing.

Rikki Brackett appeared at Oxford Crown Court today after admitting a string of driving and theft offences.

The 39-year-old of no fixed abode had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, theft of a vehicle, theft of car keys and a wallet as well as five counts of fraud relating to using a stolen card to buy goods.

He also admitted counts of failing to stop after a road accident, driving with cocaine in his blood as well as driving while disqualified and without third party insurance.

All the offences took place on August 11 and 12 last year in Oxford.

The thefts took place at the Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre and the dangerous driving offence took place in Rose Hill.

Brackett appeared via videolink from HMP Bullingdon at court today to be sentenced.

Instead of proceeding to sentencing, his defence team asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared to explore all sentencing options.

That report will be completed by the National Probation Service.

Presiding Judge Ian Pringle QC said that Brackett has a 'staggering record' of previous convictions and called him a 'prolific offender.'

He agreed to adjourn the case while a report is prepared on behalf of Brackett to explore the possibility of a residential rehabilitation programme.

His sentencing hearing will take place at the same court on Monday.
