THE transformation of a historic building into a visitor’s centre is nearing completion.
The Harwich Society, at the centre of a project to turn Esplanade Hall into Harwich’s Mayflower 2020 visitor centre, said volunteers are working hard to finish decorating the building.
Mick Monks, the society’s project manager, said he is continuing his daily work on site to ensure the final works are completed, to allow the display material to be installed.
Colin Farnell, Harwich Society chairman, said: “It is wonderful to see this lovely old building coming back to life and it will provide a legacy for the community over and above the fantastic tourist potential brought about by Mayflower 2020.
“The volunteers are working very hard and are delighted by all that is being achieved.”
It was Mr Farnell and Harwich town councillor Garry Calver who suggested Esplanade Hall be used for this purpose.
Partners including Tendring Council, Harwich Town Council, the Harwich Society and Galloper Wind Farms have all collaborated in a bid to restore the hall to its former glory.
