NON-LEAGUE football officials followed in the footsteps of their Premier League and EFL counterparts by postponing Saturday's action.

All matches were off in both the BetVictor Isthmian League and Thurlow Nunn League, due to the Covid 19 outbreak.

The former features Brightlingsea Regent, Maldon and Tiptree, Heybridge Swifts, Coggeshall Town and Witham Town.

Officials took the decision to postpone this weekend's fixtures and also those scheduled for midweek.

They say they will monitor the situation on a daily basis before making a decision about when games can take place again.

The Thurlow Nunn League, meanwhile, has taken the lead set by the Premier League and EFL by halting the action until April 3.

That decisions affects Stanway Rovers, FC Clacton, Brantham Athletic, Little Oakley, Harwich and Parkeston, Wivenhoe Town, Halstead Town, Holland FC, Coggeshall United and Brightlingsea Regent Reserves.

Isthmian League chairman Nick Robinson issued a statement on Friday afternoon.

He said: "The safety and wellbeing of all those associated with the league - our players, volunteers, club officials, match officials and supporters - is our number one priority and we are closely monitoring the situation and carefully following advice from Public Health England.

"The board has decided that as an immediate step matches scheduled for tomorrow and next midweek will be postponed and we will review the situation daily as to when fixtures can recommence.

"We understand the enormous financial impact this will have on many clubs but the board feels that it is better to err on the side of caution at this time.

"We hope that by taking this step we can delay the spread of the virus and we earnestly hope that with the right approach there will be as few persons as possible suffering either directly or indirectly.

"We look forward to the resumption of the fixtures as soon as possible."

Following an update from the Thurlow Nunn League, all matches have been postponed until April 3.

This includes all reserve and under-18 matches.

In a statement issued on Friday, league secretary Nigel Spurling said: "I am sure you aware that today the Premier League and English Football League decided to postpone all fixtures until Saturday, April 3 2020 due to the Covid 19 outbreak.

"The Football Association has told the leagues at our level that it is up to the leagues themselves to decide their own position regarding playing fixtures at present.

"We have today been contacted by clubs that have players and personnel who are self-isolating and one case of a confirmed virus.

"We have therefore decided to postpone all matches in the Thurlow Nunn Football League with immediate effect.

"This therefore also includes matches in the reserve division and Thurlow Nunn Youth League.

"The situation will be reviewed on Monday, March 30 but even if the decision was then taken to restart, no games would be played in any of our competitions until at least Saturday, April 3.

"This decision has been taken with the best interests of players, match officials and club personnel to the forefront and I hope that everyone can understand that this both reduces risk and brings some certainty to the situation."
