CANVEY Island fan Chris Smith talks us through his favourite moment supporting the Gulls.

My favourite moment supporting Canvey Island has to be watching us in the play-off final away to Redbridge in 2008.

This followed our terrific winning streak at the end of the season, winning five out of six matches. I was a young lad at the time and I attended this match with my grandad. I remember hundreds of Canvey fans chanting non-stop all game.

I remember us being down to 10 men nearing the end of the match, but somehow we managed to nick a goal and take it to extra-time.

We eventually won the match after our final penalty was retaken.

Following this, myself and the fellow Gulls fans were ecstatic! We all ran onto the pitch to celebrate with our heroes who had worked so hard to earn promotion.

While I was running onto the pitch to celebrate with the players, I looked back and realised that my grandad was still trying to get over the barrier!

Once I assisted my grandad, we were able to join in the celebrations on the pitch.

Looking back, John Batch assembled a great team that we will never forget.

I hope that more days like this one lay ahead.
