A COMMUNITY care initiative has been launched to help vulnerable people during periods of self-isolation.

Great Oakley Parish Council has launched a helpline to assist residents by arranging for deliveries of food and essential items, collecting and delivering medication and assigning a volunteer to keep in touch with them.

The initiative is available for individuals, couples or families who are in isolation because they have been exposed to or have contracted Covid-19 or who are part of an at risk group.

A parish council spokesman said: “This is of course a worrying time for us all, but as individuals we have a responsibility to follow the guidance provided by Public Health England, the NHS and central government to take appropriate steps to help prevent the spread of the virus for as long as possible.

“This can make a major difference at a local and national level, especially in protecting those who are most vulnerable at this time.”

Residents can call the helpline daily between 8am and 5pm on 07951 738472.

People who would like to support the initiative and are willing and able to help as a volunteer have been asked to register their interest by calling the helpline number.
