A DARING duo will be shaving their heads to raise money for much needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the NHS.

Jade Howe, 29, originally from Dovercourt and Charlotte Johnson originally from Bolton, will be shaving their heads on Sunday.

So far they raised more than £600 through a Just Giving page.

Jade, who lives in New Zealand with her partner Daniel Murphy, and son, Koa who is two, said: “In this Covid-19 pandemic, NHS workers are putting themselves at risk every minute of every day for the welfare of this country, this world.

“I’d like to fundraise so more protective gear can be purchased for these workers.”

Jade’s mum, Bonita Howe, of Main Road, Dovercourt, said this is the second time her daughter is shaving her head for a good cause.

“We both did it five years ago, when she was in the Philippines to help rebuild homes after the country was hit by a tsunami and now, she has decided to do it again for the NHS,” Mrs Howe said.

“I think what she’s doing is wonderful.

“But that’s what she does, she raises money for good causes, runs marathons and is active to help others.

“She’s an amazing young mum and daughter - and I’m really proud of her.”

Jade came home to Dovercourt to visit her ill father in January.

She was also supposed to run the Mayflower 400 Harwich half-marathon.

After Jade made a call to her friends to join in the head shave, Charlotte, gave in to the challenge and will be shaving her hair for the first time ever.

Charlotte, 28, from Devizes, in Wiltshire, said she wanted to shave her head for a long time but always talked herself out of it.

“That weakness and vanity in me will continue to bother me until I actually do it,” she said.

“I thought with some moral support, a good cause and the fact that I don’t actually have to go out in public anytime soon makes for a perfect opportunity to finally give this a go.

“I’m genuinely terrified and it won’t be done without sinking at least one bottle of wine first.

“Please follow the link to donate to Jade’s crowdfunding page to help raise these funds for our NHS and to actually make this ballsy move of ours worthwhile.”
