PEOPLE in north east Essex have been reminded that GP practices will be closed on the upcoming bank holiday.

However, numerous pharmacies across Essex will be open on Monday, May 25.

Dr Hasan Chowhan, a GP in Colchester and chairman of NHS North Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “If you have any concerns about coronavirus you should firstly visit the NHS 111 Online symptom checker for help and advice.

“It’s very important you do not go to your hospital’s emergency department or the local pharmacy as you could potentially be spreading the virus.”

Dr Mark Shenton, said people who are feeling unwell with a non-coronavirus related concern should speak to a pharmacist or call NHS 111.

“NHS 111 is open 24 hours a day and is manned by trained advisors who can offer advice or arrange for you to see a doctor.” he said.
