FIREFIGHTERS were tackling a fire for more than an hour in a first floor flat in Dovercourt before putting it out.
Two crews from Dovercourt and one from Manningtree were called to a fire in a flat in High Street, Dovercourt last night at 10.55pm.
A member of the public had raised the alarm after seeing smoke coming from a window.
The property, which is above Bet Central, in High Street, was vacant.
Firefighters found the flat, measuring approximately 8 metres by 10 metres, filled with smoke and extinguished the fire by 12.13am.
It is believed an electrical fault caused the fire.
An Essex Police spokesman said officers will not be investigating as the fire was not deliberate.
Bet Central has been contacted for a comment.
