A COUPLE has been left feeling “uneasy” after their car was ransacked by vandals.

Jeanette and Mark Hale, of Ray Avenue, Dovercourt, woke up to find out their car had been broken into.

Mrs Hale, who cooks every Saturday as part of community group Harwich Helps, said they found their Dacia Logan Laureate Estate, which was parked on their driveway, ransacked.

The 55-year-old said: “They pulled things out from the glove compartment and made a mess.

“They didn’t steal anything as we don’t keep anything valuable in the car.

“What is ironic is the fact that the boot was full of vegetables, but they haven’t touched those.

“They seem to be targeting cars on the driveways as they haven’t touched our other car, which was parked on the road.”

Mrs Hale said her sister, Michelle Looker’s Ford Fiesta was also targeted that same night in The Ridgeway, Dovercourt, with a few other cars being targeted on Ashley Road.

“It makes you angry, but it’s also the fact that there was somebody down on our drive, which makes you feel uneasy,” she added.

“The town is gradually getting worse and it’s such a shame.

“It’s still a nice place to live but the minority is ruining it for others.”

Mrs Hale said CCTV footage shows there were two people seen at their car at about 3.20am and the same people were seen at her sister’s car at 3.30am, on May 15.

An Essex Police spokesman said reports of thefts from vehicles have bene falling since February.

He said: “We have seen a drop in reports of some crime types while people were restricted about when and why they could leave their homes.

“We can only do something about incidents which have been reported to us so we’d encourage any affected by any crime to report it to us.”

Anyone with information should call Essex Police on 101.
