A TRANSPORT organisation has relaunched a useful service, and is looking for more drivers.

Harwich Connexions relaunched its Harwich Dial A Ride Community Transport service on Monday.

The service announced it has been receiving more requests for transport to shops and medical appointments, after getting updated Government advice.

In the past few weeks Harwich Connexions busses have been on the road daily as part of the Harwich Helps initiative to support the community.

The Hospital Hopper bus has been also operating for Harwich patients.

Debbie Hill, 61, co-ordinator for Harwich Connexions, said:“Our emergency community services have included picking up shopping lists and bags, dropping off shopping once done, as well as delivering prescriptions, food parcels and offering help and support.”

“We have also supported the team producing hot meals for housebound and vulnerable residents which has been particularly welcomed whilst the Age Concern lunch club has been closed”.

Chairman of Harwich Connexions Richard Colley said they are happy to continue to be part of the Harwich Helps community group.

He said: “The town can be proud of the community spirit shown in recent weeks by local organisations, the staff and volunteers involved.

“We look forward to reintroducing our popular Dial a Ride passenger service again.”

As part of the Dial A Ride service, Harwich Connexions offers a limited service to help keep their staff and passengers safe.

When booking a slot passengers have been advised to maintain the two metre distance and sit where directed by the driver, use a face covering, wash or sanitise their hands before and after travelling.

People have been also asked not to travel if they have any symptoms of the coronavirus.

Harwich Connexions is now on the lookout for some more volunteer drivers with a clean driving licence to join their team.
