DRIVERS are facing a 16 mile diversion when a busy dual carriageway is closed overnight for three weeks of resurfacing works.

Highways England is set to resurface the A120 between the Ardleigh Crown Interchange and the Horsely Cross roundabout.

The overnight works have been split into two phases and will begin on Monday.

The first phase will see the A120 westbound closed between the two junctions from Monday to Friday.

A second round of works will take place on the stretch between Monday October 19 and Friday October 22.

Westbound traffic will be diverted off the A120 at Horsley Cross and taken on a 16 mile diversion via B1035, B1033, A133, St Andrews Avenue and Ipswich Road before being able to rejoin the Crown Interchange.

As part of phase two the A120/A133 eastbound sliproad will be closed on weeknights between Monday October 19 and Wednesday October 21.

Harwich and Manningtree Standard:

Drivers will be diverted via the B1035, B1033, Colchester Road and on to the A133.

The westbound sliproad will be closed weeknights between Friday October 16 and Friday October 23 with the same diversion in place in reverse.

In a letter to residents Sean Deacon, project manager, said: “During this work we’ll also be renewing faded road markings and replacing road studs.

“We plans to complete this work over three weeks on weeknights only between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

Harwich and Manningtree Standard:

“To minimise the impact of these works, we have split the work into two phases.

“We have liaised with local authorities to agree the most suitable diversion routes around each phase.”
